About

Frog Heaven Forest Camp is a primitive, unmaintained dispersed camping area located in the Blue Mountains of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, managed by the La Grande Ranger District. This site is truly for campers wanting to rough it, offering no developed facilities, services, or maintenance. The camp is situated near several fishing ponds in the Blue Mountains, providing opportunities for anglers and those seeking solitude in a remote forest setting. The area experiences light usage and requires self-sufficiency, as there are no restrooms, potable water, trash service, or other amenities. Campers must bring all necessary supplies and pack out all waste. The site is accessed via Forest Road 21 off State Highway 244, approximately 26 miles from La Grande. Due to its elevation and remote location in the Blue Mountains, access is typically limited to summer and early fall months, with winter snow making the forest roads impassable.

Directions

From La Grande, take I-84 west for 20 miles. Turn southwest on State Highway 244, then northwest on Forest Road 21 for approximately 6 miles to Frog Heaven Campground.
