About

Fort Spokane Campground combines outdoor recreation with military history on the shores of Lake Roosevelt. Located near the confluence of the Spokane and Columbia Rivers, the campground offers 67 sites nestled among ponderosa pines with proximity to the historic Fort Spokane grounds. The former guardhouse now serves as a seasonal visitor center and museum, teaching visitors about the military fort and Indian boarding school through interpretive exhibits and programs. The location is exceptional for birding, with Hawk Creek nearby providing habitat for peregrine falcons, blue herons, bald eagles, osprey, and occasional golden eagles. Lake Roosevelt offers year-round fishing for walleye, bass, rainbow trout, and salmon, with the shoreline rarely freezing in winter. The campground features paved roads, designated accessible sites, and a boat launch that remains open year-round. Wildlife viewing opportunities include moose, elk, deer, and bighorn sheep in the surrounding area. During winter operations, the back loop closes with limited access maintained to sites 1-4 and the front areas. Water service is seasonal from mid-May through September. The campground operates exclusively on a reservation basis through Recreation.gov with no first-come, first-served sites. A self-guided interpretive trail around the historic fort grounds remains accessible year-round for exploring the site's rich cultural history.
