About
Fort Spokane Campground combines rich history with outstanding recreation in the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. The campground sprawls among towering Ponderosa pines on the shoreline of Lake Roosevelt, a 130-mile reservoir created by Grand Coulee Dam. Situated near the confluence of the Spokane River and Columbia River, the facility offers direct lake access via a year-round boat launch and some of the best fishing in the region for walleye, bass, rainbow trout, and salmon. The campground's 67 sites accommodate both RVs and tent campers, with walk-in sites available for those seeking a quieter experience. Paved roads and parking spaces provide easy access, though campsite areas including picnic tables and fire pits are unpaved and may be uneven. Flush toilets operate seasonally while vault toilets remain available year-round. Potable water runs from mid-May through September 30; campers visiting in winter must bring their own water supply. Directly across the road sits the historic Fort Spokane visitor center and museum, housed in the original 1892 guardhouse. The fort was established to maintain peace between settlers and American Indians, and later served as an Indian boarding school. The visitor center operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with a self-guided interpretive trail around the historic grounds open year-round.
