About
Gifford Group Site is located along the northern shoreline of Lake Roosevelt, a 130-mile lake on the Columbia River created by the Grand Coulee Dam. Part of Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area managed by the National Park Service, this group campsite accommodates up to 50 people and sits adjacent to the main Gifford Campground. The site is nestled in a thick Ponderosa pine forest that provides ample shade while offering spectacular views of the lake from every vantage point. The beachfront location and shallow water make for ideal swimming conditions, though there is no designated swimming area. A boat launch provides lake access for boating, fishing, and water skiing. The area is popular with hunting groups seeking deer and turkey in the surrounding lands where hunting is permitted. The lake area is abundant with wildlife including moose, elk, deer, and bald eagles. Dozens of fish species inhabit the lake such as walleye, bass, rainbow trout, and salmon. Much of the water originates from glaciers and snowmelt in the Canadian Rockies, though summer temperatures are pleasant for swimming. The nearby Gifford Ferry, operated by the Colville Confederated Tribes, offers free passage across the river with departures every 15 minutes.
