About
Fort Casey Historical State Park sits on 411 acres along the western shore of Whidbey Island, three miles south of Coupeville. The park preserves one of the three forts built in the late 1800s to guard Puget Sound's entrance at Admiralty Inlet. Two massive concrete gun batteries with disappearing carriages remain open for exploration, offering a glimpse into early 20th-century coastal defense strategy. The campground provides a base for exploring the park's historic features and natural areas. The Admiralty Head Lighthouse, built in 1903 and restored to its original appearance, houses an interpretive center. Over 10,000 feet of saltwater shoreline offers beach access, tidepooling, and views across Admiralty Inlet. The Keystone-Port Townsend ferry terminal is adjacent to the park. Campers should be aware that U.S. Navy jets from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island conduct training flights that may pass overhead at various times, creating significant noise depending on wind direction and flight patterns.
Directions
From Coupeville, head south on State Route 20 for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Engle Road and follow signs to Fort Casey State Park.
