Upper Forest Campground sits in a sheltered, forested area of Fort Worden Historical State Park, offering a more private camping experience compared to the Beach Campground. The sites are located in the southwest portion of the park near Chinese Gardens Lake, providing protection from coastal winds while still offering easy access to the park's extensive network of trails. The campground features partial-hookup sites with access to restrooms and showers. Fort Worden State Park is a sprawling 434-acre site overlooking Admiralty Inlet at the entrance to Puget Sound. Campers can explore 12 miles of hiking trails, historic gun batteries and bunkers from the park's military past, beaches along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Point Wilson Lighthouse. The park offers opportunities for beachcombing, kayaking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and visiting the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. The campground is popular year-round and reservations are necessary. On-site amenities include a camp store with essentials, kayak rentals, multiple food vendors including coffee and full-service dining, and a reservable kitchen shelter. The park provides dump station facilities, trash service, and recycling. Maximum site length is 75 feet with limited availability.
