About
Fort Worden Upper Forest Campground occupies the forested upper portion of Fort Worden Historical State Park, a sprawling 434-acre site overlooking Admiralty Inlet at the entrance to Puget Sound. The campground comprises sites 51-80, offering partial utility hookups with electric and water connections in a more secluded, wooded environment compared to the park's Beach Campground. The park preserves a former U.S. Army coastal defense installation built in the early 1900s. Campers have direct access to miles of hiking and biking trails, historic gun batteries and bunkers, two lighthouses (Point Wilson and Admiralty Head), marine science center, beaches, and a variety of museums. The park also hosts the Centrum arts and creative education programs in restored historic buildings. The Upper Forest Campground closes seasonally from October 31 through March 15. Reservations are strongly recommended year-round as sites fill quickly, especially during summer months. The campground accommodates RVs up to 75 feet with limited availability for the largest rigs.
Directions
From US-101, take Highway 20 east toward Port Townsend. In Port Townsend, follow signs to Fort Worden State Park. The park entrance is at the end of Cherry Street. Upper Forest Campground is located in the upper portion of the park near the historic battery loop.
