About
Fort Ebey State Park Campground occupies 645 acres on the western shore of Whidbey Island, overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Originally constructed as a coastal defense installation during World War II, the park preserves concrete gun battery platforms and underground bunkers that visitors can explore. The campground provides 50 sites, with select sites offering partial hookups including water and electric. The park features 25 miles of mixed-use trails winding through forested areas and along dramatic bluffs, offering exceptional views of the Olympic Mountains, Vancouver Island, and Port Townsend. At low tide, visitors can walk the driftwood-strewn beach and explore tide pools. Lake Pondilla provides freshwater fishing opportunities for smallmouth bass. The park is a popular destination for paragliding, surfing, and eagle watching, with large fields available for sports activities. Campers should be aware that U.S. Navy jets from nearby Naval Air Station Whidbey Island may fly overhead during training missions at various times day and night, creating periodic noise. The campground provides flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water during the operating season. Advance reservations are required through the Washington State Parks system. All visitors need a Washington Discover Pass for vehicle entry.
