About
Fort Flagler Historical State Park occupies the northern tip of Marrowstone Island, offering 784 acres of marine camping surrounded by over 19,000 feet of saltwater shoreline. The park features two distinct camping areas: the Lower Beach Campground with 69 sites including full and partial hookup options with views of Admiralty Inlet and Puget Sound, and the Upper Campground with 47 standard sites in a more private forested setting. Both campgrounds provide restrooms with showers and easy trail access. The park preserves turn-of-the-century military history with original fortifications including gun batteries, the historic hospital, and non-commissioned officers' quarters available for exploration. On clear days, visitors can see three of Washington's five active volcanoes: Mt. Baker and both the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. Popular activities include beach exploration, hiking on both beach and wooded trails, boating with a boat launch and moorage, saltwater fishing, clamming, crabbing, and paragliding. The park operates year-round with seasonal variations. The upper campground closes from late September through early May, while the lower beach campground remains open all year and now accepts reservations year-round. A concession stand operates seasonally offering meals and camping supplies, and guided kayak tours are available. The park also features vacation house rentals, picnic shelters, a playground, and basketball court.
