About

Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park Group Campground is part of a 3,170-acre state park in southeastern Minnesota that offers both above-ground and underground natural wonders. The park's main attraction is Mystery Cave, the longest cave system in Minnesota stretching over 13 miles underground, featuring stalactites, stalagmites, and underground pools. Guided tours of Mystery Cave are available seasonally, typically from late May through early September. The group campground is set in a wooded area and is one of multiple camping areas within the park complex. The main park campgrounds total 128 campsites, with the main campground offering 73 sites including 23 with electrical hookups. The park features an extensive trail system with 17 miles of hiking trails and 15 miles of horseback riding trails, along with access to cold-water trout streams. The park also includes Historic Forestville, a restored 19th-century village operated by the Minnesota Historical Society, which is open from May through October. The rugged wooded landscape provides habitat for diverse plant and animal life, and the park offers year-round recreation opportunities including cross-country skiing in winter. The park's facilities include shower houses, RV dump stations, and picnic areas with seasonal drinking water and bathroom facilities.
