About

The equestrian campground at Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park is designed exclusively for horse camping, featuring 55 sites with 23 electric hookups available. Many electric sites are pull-through for easier trailer maneuvering. Each site includes hitching posts, a picnic table, and a fire ring, with vault toilets located throughout the campground. The campground serves as a base for exploring 15 miles of dedicated horse trails that wind through the park's rugged wooded landscape. Trails climb forested ridges, descend into steep creek and river valleys, and connect to additional trails in the surrounding Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest. The trails are surfaced with crushed rock for stable footing and offer scenic views throughout. All equestrians must purchase a Minnesota Horse Pass prior to visiting, available from any ELS license agent. The park is located in southeast Minnesota's bluff country, featuring limestone cliffs, blue ribbon trout streams, and diverse habitats. While primarily known for equestrian use, the park also offers Mystery Cave tours, Historic Forestville, and extensive hiking opportunities for non-riding companions.
