About
Whitewater State Park Camper Cabins provide a year-round rustic camping experience in one of southeastern Minnesota's most scenic parks. The cabins sit within the Minneiska campground area, surrounded by 200-foot limestone and dolomite bluffs carved by the spring-fed Whitewater River. Each 12x16-foot wooden cabin accommodates up to six guests and includes wooden bunk beds with mattresses, a table and benches, heat, electricity, and a screened porch. The cabins lack indoor plumbing, but seasonal restroom and shower facilities with drinking water are located nearby in the campground. Vault toilets remain accessible year-round. Each cabin has an outdoor fire ring with grate and a picnic table for cooking, though only crockpots and coffeepots are permitted inside. Firewood is available for purchase at the park; non-local wood is prohibited. The park offers excellent trout fishing for brown, brook, and rainbow trout in the Whitewater River and Trout Run Creek. Visitors can explore trails ranging from easy walks to challenging bluff climbs like Chimney Rock, swim at the spring-fed Oxbow Beach, and visit the year-round visitor center. The nature store sells snacks, ice cream, and camping supplies. Cell service is limited to AT&T in the valley, and Wi-Fi is only available at the visitor center.
Directions
From Altura, drive south on Highway 74 for approximately 7 miles. The park entrance is at 19041 Highway 74, Altura, MN 55910.
