About
The camper cabins at Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park provide year-round shelter in Minnesota's scenic bluff country. Each rustic 12x16 foot wooden structure includes bunk beds with mattresses, a table, benches, electricity, heat, and a screened porch. Cabins Mink, Owl, and Pine accommodate up to six guests, while the wheelchair-accessible Trout and Lily cabins sleep five. Every cabin has an outdoor picnic table and fire ring with a cooking grate. Cabins are walk-in only; vehicles cannot drive to them, but wagons are provided at the parking area. No indoor cooking is allowed except for crockpots and coffeepots. Flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water are available at the nearby campground facilities. A visitor center at Mystery Cave offers interpretive displays, tour tickets, and a nature store. The park surrounds Minnesota's longest cave system, with guided cave tours available seasonally. Above ground, over 16 miles of trails wind through hardwood forests along the South Branch of the Root River, offering excellent trout fishing, hiking, and horseback riding opportunities.
Directions
From Preston, take Fillmore County Road 5 south for 4 miles, then turn east onto Fillmore County Road 118 and continue 2 miles to the park entrance.
