About

Ellis Lock #11 Campground is situated along the Muskingum River State Park, part of a historic 160-year-old navigation system designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The campground offers 20 primitive, non-electric campsites off State Route 60 and County Road 49 in Muskingum County, providing a peaceful riverside camping experience. The campground is located near Ellis Dam and Lock #11, one of 10 hand-operated locks that extend 112 miles through southeastern Ohio. Campers can enjoy the sound of water falling over the adjacent dam while experiencing the area's rich history dating back to 1841. The Muskingum River system opened Ohio and the Midwest to trade and development, and today serves over 7,000 recreational boaters annually. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, with drinking water and latrines available. The campground serves as an excellent base for fishing all three species of black bass, saugeye, and catfish, or for launching boats to explore the navigable waterway. Public launch ramps are provided at the lock, and unlimited horsepower motors are permitted on the river. The scenic hill country surrounding the Muskingum River features rich floodplains with walnut, elm, cottonwood, and sycamore trees, along with diverse bird life and mammals.
