About
Eagle Beach State Recreation Area is located 27 miles north of Juneau at Mile 28 of the Glacier Highway, where the Chilkat Range rises dramatically across Lynn Canal. The recreation area encompasses coastal wetlands and forested uplands that attract diverse wildlife including brown and black bears, moose, bald eagles, and migratory waterfowl. The campground offers 16 primitive sites nestled in a forested section, plus additional walk-in camping areas. Sites are first-come-first-served with a 7-day maximum stay. The area accommodates RVs up to 35 feet in length. ADA-accessible facilities include toilets, potable water, and trails. Two picnic shelters and a group camping area are available for reservation through ReserveAmerica. Three public-use cabins (Berry Patch, Marten, and Saturday Creek) provide overnight shelter options for those seeking a more remote experience. Summer activities include hiking the beach and wetland trails, berry picking in late summer, wildlife photography, and beachcombing. The recreation area provides a boat launch for water access to Lynn Canal.
Directions
From downtown Juneau, drive north on the Glacier Highway (Egan Drive) for approximately 27 miles to Mile 28. The recreation area entrance is on the left (west) side of the highway.
