About
Point Bridget State Park encompasses 2,850 acres of stunning Southeast Alaska wilderness on Lynn Canal, 40 miles north of Juneau. Created by the Alaska State Legislature in 1988, the park offers meadows, cliffs, spectacular views, salmon spawning streams, rocky beaches, and coastal rainforest. The park provides three backcountry public-use cabins: Blue Mussel Beach Cabin, Cowee Meadow Cabin, and Camping Cove Cabin, each accommodating up to 8 people. The Point Bridget Trail system covers approximately 8 miles, beginning with packed gravel that descends into rainforest muskeg. About 1.4 miles from the trailhead, hikers encounter beaver meadows with unique wetlands. Horse Meadow features spectacular wildflowers peaking in late June. The trail continues to Cowee Meadow Cabin, where a short planked trail leads to scenic shoreline. Blue Mussel Cabin lies another 0.8 miles through forest paralleling cliffy coastline. Cedar Lake sits 380 feet above sea level, accessible via a more primitive trail section. In winter, the meadows and open forest provide excellent skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. The park offers outstanding wildlife viewing, particularly bears during salmon spawning season from June through October.
Directions
