About

Auk Village Campground is located 15 miles northwest of downtown Juneau in Tongass National Forest, sitting above Auke Bay in a western hemlock and Sitka spruce forested area. The campground was once a village site for the Auk Tlingit Natives and now offers 11 camping sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Most sites meet accessibility standards. The setting provides spectacular views of the Chilkat Range and the ocean, though bears frequent the area. The campground is part of the Auk Recreation Area, which includes a large day use area on the shores of Auk Bay with shelters, picnic tables, drinking water, fire rings and trails. At nearby Auk Bay Harbor, commercial operators offer sport fishing, kayak rentals, and whale watching tours. The area provides diverse outdoor opportunities including fishing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, picnicking, motor boating, hiking, berry picking, rafting, sailing, bicycling, and glacier viewing. The campground is located 1.5 miles from the Alaska State Ferry terminal at Auke Bay, making it convenient for travelers arriving by ferry. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov.
