About
Mendenhall Lake Campground provides one of the most accessible glacier camping experiences in Alaska, situated directly on Mendenhall Lake with stunning views of the Mendenhall Glacier and surrounding Tongass National Forest. Located just 13 miles from downtown Juneau, the campground offers a range of site types: 9 full-service RV sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups; 9 partial-service sites with electric and water; 51 basic sites; and 7 walk-in backpacker sites with a covered cooking shelter. All sites feature tent pads, picnic tables, and fire grills built to accessibility standards. Two bathhouse units provide flush toilets and hot showers, while vault toilets and water faucets are dispersed throughout the campground. A central dump station and trash dumpster are available near the entrance. Bears frequent the area, so all scented items must be stored in vehicles or bear-proof containers. The campground accommodates large rigs, with 48 sites suitable for camping units over 30 feet. The entrance gate closes nightly from 10pm to 7am, though the exit remains open 24 hours. Maximum stay is 14 days. Firewood is rarely provided; campers should bring their own.
