About
Eagle Glacier Cabin is a 12x16-foot log chalet-style cabin situated on the shores of Eagle Lake, directly facing the dramatic Eagle Glacier. Located 23 miles northwest of Juneau in Tongass National Forest, this remote retreat offers an immersive wilderness experience surrounded by old-growth spruce and hemlock forest. The cabin accommodates up to 8 people with a double bunk, single bunk, and sleeping loft. Amenities include a propane wall furnace (propane supplied), wood stove (bring your own firewood), table with benches, cooking counter, food cupboard, and an outhouse. A covered front porch, picnic table, and campfire ring are available outside. No potable water or electricity is provided; visitors must bring water or treat water from a nearby stream. Access is via the Amalga Trail, a 5.5-mile hike from mile marker 27.3 on Glacier Highway. Allow 3.5-4 hours with a full pack. The trail continues another 2 miles past the cabin toward the glacier, and a half-mile side trail leads to a waterfall. Cross-country skiing is not recommended due to rough terrain; snowshoes work better in winter. The cabin is also accessible by helicopter. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage and bear awareness are essential.
