About

Dry Fork Recreation Area serves as the primary equestrian trailhead for the 36-mile Cedar Creek Trail system in Mark Twain National Forest, located in central Missouri near Fulton. This primitive campground is nestled in a quiet oak and cedar forest, offering 8 single campsites and 1 group site across the road. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and hitching posts specifically for equestrian use, making it an ideal base camp for horseback riders exploring the trail system. The campground accommodates RVs up to 30 feet in length, though no electric, water, or sewer hookups are available at individual sites. A pressurized water system provides potable water year-round at the campground, and vault toilets serve the area. A day-use picnic area with tables and grills is located across the road from the camping sites. The Cedar Creek Trail offers 36 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding through varied Ozark landscapes including forest, tallgrass prairie, and scenic creek overlooks. The trail system includes the Northern Loop, Bluff Section, Pine Ridge Section (foot and bike only), and Moon Trail, providing diverse terrain and experiences. The campground's remote location and equestrian amenities make it particularly popular with horse campers, though recreationists without horses are equally welcome.
