About
Coyote Campground is situated within Mark Twain State Park, established in 1924 as the third-oldest state park in Missouri and the first north of the Missouri River. The park overlooks Mark Twain Lake in the Salt River Hills of northeast Missouri, featuring bluffs with views of the water and forests of oak, hickory, and maple. The campground offers both basic and electric campsites on concrete pads, each equipped with a fire ring, extended-end picnic table, and lantern post. Accessible vault toilets and water hydrants are spaced throughout the campground. Modern showers and laundry facilities operate during the on-season from April 15 through October 31. During the off-season (November through April 14), potable water remains available at the frost-free spigot near campsite 1. The campground includes an amphitheater and allows parking of watercraft or ATV trailers off the campsite pad. Mark Twain State Park offers excellent fishing opportunities for bluegill, crappie, catfish, largemouth bass, walleye, and perch. The park features over six miles of hiking trails with lake views, two four-lane boat ramps, a public beach, disc golf course, and picnic areas with reservable shelters.
