Cranberry Lake Campground
Closed — Closed for the season. Opens May 15 and operates through September 7 annually. Reservations available through ReserveAmerica.
Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT
Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.
About
Cranberry Lake Campground sits along the shores of one of the largest remote lakes in the Adirondacks, offering an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The campground features 171 campsites sheltered under a dense forest canopy that provides excellent shade and privacy. With proximity to 50,000 acres of wilderness and over 50 miles of well-developed trails, the area is perfect for hiking, fishing, and paddling adventures. The lake has been stocked with trout and offers excellent fishing for bass and panfish. Boaters can explore the 6,975-acre lake, while paddlers can venture down the Oswegatchie River for a 16-mile canoe trip or tackle the more adventurous Bog River Flow. Two trails depart directly from the campground, including the challenging Bear Mountain Trail loop and access to a 17.4-mile trail system. The nearby Cranberry Lake Wild Forest and Five Ponds Wilderness Area provide additional hiking opportunities. Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, the campground has expanded over the decades and now offers modern amenities including hot showers, flush toilets, a sand beach with bathhouse, boat launch access, fishing pier, and an amphitheater. The facility is managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and operates seasonally from mid-May through early September.
