Lodgepole Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Typically reopens in mid to late May and operates through October or November depending on snow conditions. Reservations open approximately four months in advance.

About

Lodgepole Campground is located along the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River at an elevation of 6,700 feet in Sequoia National Park. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the Giant Forest, home to the world's largest tree by volume, the General Sherman Tree, located just two miles away. The campground features 214 sites during peak summer season, with reduced capacity in spring and fall when only 16 walk-in tent sites and limited RV sites remain open. The location provides access to over 40 miles of trails, including the paved Big Trees Trail through ancient sequoia groves, the Tokopah Falls Trail along the river leading to a 1,200-foot waterfall, and the trail to Moro Rock with its spectacular views of the Great Western Divide. Lodgepole Village is a quarter-mile away, offering a visitor center, market, gift shop, and coin-operated showers and laundry facilities. The campground is forested with lodgepole pine and red fir, and the river flows seasonally with snowmelt. Black bears are active in the area, and proper food storage in provided bear boxes is mandatory.

Directions

From the south via Highway 198 East from Visalia, follow signs to Sequoia National Park entrance. From the north via Highway 180 East from Fresno, follow signs to Kings Canyon National Park entrance, then continue to Sequoia. From either entrance, take Generals Highway to Lodgepole Road and turn at the Lodgepole Visitor Center. The campground entrance is beyond the market area. Note: Vehicles over 22 feet including trailers should use the northern Highway 180 entrance to avoid narrow, winding sections on Highway 198 between Potwisha Campground and Giant Forest Museum.
