Lodgepole Campground

Closed

Closed for winter. The campground typically opens late May and operates through late September at full capacity with 214 sites. Limited sites may open in late April. All sites are reservation-only through Recreation.gov, with reservations opening in January up to four months in advance.

About

Lodgepole Campground is the most popular campground in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, located at 6,700 feet elevation along the scenic Marble Fork of the Kaweah River. The 214-site campground is nestled among lodgepole pines and red firs, with easy walking access to Lodgepole Village featuring a visitor center, market, coin-operated showers, and laundry facilities. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Giant Forest, home to the General Sherman Tree, the world's largest tree by volume, located just two miles away. Over 40 miles of trails are accessible nearby, including the paved Big Trees Trail, the popular hike to Tokopah Falls along the Marble Fork, and the trail to Moro Rock with its panoramic views of the Great Western Divide. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and bear-resistant food storage locker. Black bears are active in the area, and proper food storage is mandatory. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, though only 5 sites fit vehicles this large. Vehicles over 22 feet should enter via Highway 180 from the north to avoid tight curves on the southern approach.

Directions

From the south (Highway 198): Take Highway 198 E from Visalia to the Sequoia National Park entrance, then follow Generals Highway about one hour to Lodgepole Road. Note: Vehicles over 22 feet are not advised on this route between Potwisha and Giant Forest Museum. From the north (Highway 180): Take Highway 180 E from Fresno to Kings Canyon National Park entrance, then follow signs to Sequoia National Park and Lodgepole, approximately one hour. Turn onto Lodgepole Road, pass the Visitor Center and market, and look for the wooden kiosk at the campground entrance.
