About

Clinton Lake State Recreation Area encompasses 9,300 acres surrounding a 4,900-acre cooling lake for the Exelon Power Station in DeWitt County, Illinois. The warm water discharge creates productive fishing conditions, and the lake supports boating, water skiing, jet skiing, and SCUBA diving. A 1,000-foot sandy beach at Mascoutin is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The campground system offers varied accommodations across multiple loops. The 17 Class AA sites provide full hookups with water, electric, and sewer connections. The 277 Class A sites have electric hookups, while Class B/S and Class C sites offer more primitive camping experiences. Every site includes a grill and picnic table. Shower buildings and potable water operate seasonally from mid-April through November. Camping loops H, I, J, and K are designated alcohol-free zones. Beyond camping, the recreation area provides an archery range, dog training area, equestrian trails, and hunting opportunities for deer, waterfowl, and upland game. Twenty-six accessible campsites and a quarter-mile accessible trail accommodate guests with mobility needs. The Camp Quest Group Camp can host groups of up to 75 people in a secluded wooded setting.
