About
Moraine View State Recreation Area encompasses 1,687 acres of glacially-formed terrain surrounding 158-acre Dawson Lake in McLean County, just east of Bloomington-Normal off I-74. The park's camping facilities are distributed across several distinct areas. Gander Bay Campground contains 102 Class A trailer sites with electricity that can be reserved through ExploreMoreIL. The general campground adds another 137 Class A electric sites with access to a sanitary dump station. Primitive camping is available at Catfish Bay and along the Tall Timber Backpack Trail, which together provide 32 Class D walk-in sites for backpackers seeking a more remote experience. Timberline Ridge Horse Camp caters to equestrians with 30 Class A sites featuring water, electricity, and hitching racks. Three group camping sites are available at Timber Ridge, though the Ol' Orchard Group area is currently closed. The park offers a 60-seat restaurant serving breakfast and lunch, boat rentals, a fishing tackle and bait shop, and a concession stand near the boat dock. Showers are seasonal, operating from approximately May 1 through October 31.
