About

Chevelon Crossing Campground occupies a historic and scenic canyon setting along Chevelon Creek in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s, this small campground retains its rustic character beneath towering ponderosa pines and oak trees at an elevation of 6,300 feet. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fee and a 14-day stay limit. Facilities are primitive: vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, and campers must pack out all trash. The Long Draw North Trailhead is located at the campground, providing access to hiking opportunities in the surrounding forest. Access requires travel on unpaved forest roads. From Winslow, head 25 miles south on Forest Road 34 to Forest Road 504; the campground sits just off FR 504 at Chevelon Creek. From the south, take Forest Road 300 to Forest Road 169, then follow 169 north to the FR 504 junction and turn right to reach the campground.
