About

Chevelon Canyon Lake Campground is a free, primitive camping area located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests at 6,800 feet elevation. The campground occupies a forested setting of ponderosa pine, juniper, and pinyon pine, with spectacular views of Chevelon Canyon. Several campsites with fire rings and picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit. A 3/4-mile trail descends steadily from the campground to Chevelon Canyon Lake, which offers fishing opportunities. Boat motors are restricted to 8 HP or less. There is no vehicle access directly to the lake. Facilities are minimal: a vault toilet is provided, but there is no potable water or trash collection. Campers must bring their own water supply and pack out all trash. The access road is not cleared in winter, so conditions may limit access during snow months.
