Black Canyon Rim Campground

Open

Open for the 2026 season. The campground operates annually from May 1 through mid-October (Columbus Day weekend). Reservations are available through Recreation.gov; first-come, first-served sites may also be available.

About

Black Canyon Rim Campground sits at 7,600 feet elevation among towering ponderosa pines on the Mogollon Rim in Arizona's Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The 20 sites are spread across relatively flat, sandy terrain and include 19 standard nonelectric sites plus one shelter site. All sites accommodate tents and pop-up campers, with some sites suitable for pull trailers, 5th-wheel trailers, and motorhomes up to 40 feet. Each campsite features a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. The campground provides vault toilets (including accessible facilities), potable drinking water, and trash service. A campground host is on-site during the operating season. Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 6 AM with no generators permitted after 10 PM. Black Canyon Lake lies approximately 2.5 miles northeast, offering fishing and boating (electric motors only). Wild horses are frequently spotted in the area, often visiting the lake for water. The historic grave site of Stott, Scott, and Wilson, three men lynched during the Pleasant Valley War, is within walking distance. The General Crook National Recreation Trail passes through, making this a favored stopping point for trail users.
