Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground
The campground reopened March 1, 2026 with limited sites and full operations began April 1. The season runs through October 18, 2026. Fox Den campground is currently walk-in only while electrical upgrades are underway; Honeysuckle Hollow remains available for reservations until its electrical work begins. Chain O' Lakes State Park encompasses 6,063 acres surrounding the Fox River Chain O'Lakes in northeastern Illinois. The campground system includes two Class A-Premium areas (Honeysuckle Hollow and Fox Den) with 151 total sites featuring 30-amp electric hookups, shower buildings, and modern amenities. Three Class B-Premium areas (Turner Lake South, Prairie View, and Mud Lake East) offer 87 more primitive sites for campers seeking a less developed experience. A youth group camp at Mud Lake West accommodates up to 150 people. The park is known for its exceptional water recreation opportunities, with 6,500 acres of water spread across 10 connected lakes. A concession stand provides essentials including ice, firewood, fishing supplies, and camp provisions. Multiple picnic areas throughout the park feature accessible facilities, and the Pike Marsh North Picnic Area includes an accessible trail for elderly and disabled visitors. Campsites feature fire pits and picnic tables. The Honeysuckle and Fox Den camping areas include accessible sites with concrete pads, accessible restrooms, and shower houses. Alcohol is prohibited in campgrounds, and firewood gathering is not permitted. Maximum stay is 14 nights within any 30-day period.
