Mostly clear skies, light winds, and ample low-level moisture are helping areas of valley fog to develop and become dense this morning. Visibilities will be below a quarter of a mile at times in some locations. Be sure to slow down and use your low beam headlights when you encounter any fog. Look for visibilities to start improving after 8 AM.
About
Carr Creek Lake Shelters consist of eight day-use group picnic shelters spread across three recreation areas on Carr Creek Lake in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. This is not an overnight camping facility. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the shelters are ideal for family reunions, group events, and large gatherings. The shelters are distributed among three areas: Littcarr Recreation Area hosts Dogwood, Willow, Pin Oak, and White Pine shelters with access to a boat ramp, playground, horseshoe pit, and shoreline fishing. The Dam/Tailwater Area contains Sycamore and Poplar shelters near a large playground, horseshoe pit, and volleyball courts. The Marina area has Laurel and Holly shelters with a boat ramp, playground, horseshoe pits, and an accessible fishing pier. The 710-acre lake offers boating, water skiing, and fishing for crappie, bass, bluegill, and walleye. Hikers can explore a short nature trail at the Dam/Tailwater area or the 6-mile Sugar Branch Trail from the dam to Sugar Lake Road.
Directions
From Hazard, Kentucky, take KY Route 15 south for 17 miles to KY Route 160, then continue 2 miles to Littcarr Recreation Area. Individual shelters are located at Littcarr Recreation Area, the Marina (first left after turning onto Smith Branch Road), and the Dam/Tailwater Area (second left after passing Carr Creek Lake Dam).
