About
Leatherwood Recreation Area is a day-use recreation facility managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Buckhorn Lake in the Cumberland Plateau of southeastern Kentucky. The primary feature is Shelter Leatherwood, a covered group picnic shelter available for day-use reservations. Adjacent to the shelter is a fishing pier providing access to Buckhorn Lake's fishing opportunities. The facility includes vault toilets and is situated in a scenic forested setting typical of Perry County's deeply dissected plateau landscape. No overnight camping is permitted at this site. For camping near Buckhorn Lake, visitors should look to Buckhorn Campground or other nearby facilities. A playground, basketball court, and boat ramp are located in the vicinity.
