Buckhorn Day Use
Open for day-use reservations via Recreation.gov. This is a day-use only facility with no overnight camping. Reservations are posted on bulletin boards at each shelter.

A period of strong wind gusts is expected this evening as the remnants of Hurricane Isaias move into eastern Kentucky. Southeasterly winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph are expected. Isolated gusts up to around 40 mph are possible in exposed areas near Lake Cumberland. The gusty winds could blow around unsecured outdoor objects and decor.

Buckhorn Day Use is a day-use recreation area located on Buckhorn Lake in Perry County, Kentucky. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this facility provides three group shelters available for reservation: Chestnut Shelter (non-electric), Red Bud Shelter (electric), and Birch Shelter (electric). Once a reservation is made, the shelter is reserved for the entire day. The area features playgrounds, fishing access to Buckhorn Lake, restrooms, and grills located near each shelter site. This is a popular spot for family gatherings, reunions, and group picnics. Alcohol use is prohibited at all sites. This is strictly a day-use facility. No overnight camping is permitted at Buckhorn Day Use. For overnight camping at Buckhorn Lake, visitors should look to nearby Buckhorn Campground, which offers tent and RV sites.
Directions
From Hazard, Kentucky, travel 9 miles north on KY 15, then 20 miles east on KY 28 to reach Buckhorn Day Use area. The entrance is along Buckhorn Lake and is well signed. Once onsite, check the bulletin boards in front of each shelter for reservation details.
