Buckhorn Day Use

Open — Open for day use reservations year-round through Recreation.gov.

About

Buckhorn Day Use is a recreation facility located on Buckhorn Lake in Perry County, Kentucky, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The area features three group shelters available for day use reservations: Chestnut Shelter (non-electric), Red Bud Shelter (electric), and Birch Shelter (electric). Once a reservation is made, the shelter is reserved for the entire day for your party. The facility provides playgrounds, fishing access to Buckhorn Lake, restrooms, and grills located at or near each site. Buckhorn Lake itself extends 1,230 surface acres and is fed by the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River, offering excellent fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, Kentucky bass, crappie, muskie, bluegill, and catfish. The lake is situated in the scenic foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Alcohol use is prohibited at these day use sites. Reservations are posted on bulletin boards in front of each shelter with the last name of the party and calendar day reserved. This is strictly a day use area with no overnight camping permitted.
