About

Hopewell Boat Access Campground offers a true backcountry camping experience on the east bank of the Allegheny Reservoir within the Allegheny National Forest. This remote 20-site campground has no road access and can only be reached by boat across the reservoir or via a 6-mile hike using the North Country National Scenic Trail with connections to the Tracy Ridge Trail System. The closest boat launches are Roper Hollow, directly across the reservoir on the west bank, and Kinzua Wolf Run Marina approximately 5 miles south near State Route 59 at Morrison Bridge. Note that there are no boat docks or launches at the campground itself, so boaters must beach their watercraft. Facilities are primitive: vault toilets and fire rings are provided, but there is no potable water. The wells were decommissioned in 2017 after failing water quality tests. Campers must bring all drinking water and can filter or treat water from the reservoir if needed. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Payment of $12 per night is made on-site via fee envelope or the Recreation.gov Scan and Pay mobile app.

Directions

Access by boat from Roper Hollow Boat Launch (directly across the reservoir on the west bank) or Kinzua Wolf Run Marina (approximately 5 miles south near State Route 59 at Morrison Bridge). Alternatively, hike approximately 6 miles via the North Country National Scenic Trail and Tracy Ridge Trail System.
