About
Brooklyn Campground sits on the banks of the New River near the Cunard River Access point and Southside Trailhead in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. This tent-only campground offers 5 primitive sites: 4 walk-in sites and 1 drive-in tent site. The location provides convenient access to the river and nearby hiking trails. As a primitive campground, amenities are minimal. Portable toilets are available year-round, but there is no potable water, electricity, or hookups. Campers must bring their own drinking water and are encouraged to pack out trash, though bear-proof trash receptacles are provided. Fire rings are available at each site for campfires using only dead wood found on the ground. Camping is completely free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Each site accommodates up to 8 people, 2 tents, 2 vehicles, and 4 pets. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM, and stays are limited to 14 days within any 28-day period.
Directions
From Oak Hill or Fayetteville, take Gatewood Road to the Cunard turnoff. Proceed 1.8 miles, then follow signs to Cunard River Access. Bear right through the boat launch parking lot and continue upstream for a mile; the campground is on the left.
