Brooklyn Campground is a primitive tent-only campground situated on the banks of the New River in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, near the Cunard River Access point and Southside Trailhead. This small campground offers 4 walk-in tent sites and 1 tent-only drive-in site, accommodating up to 2 tents and 8 people per site. RV, camper, or car camping is strictly prohibited at this location. The campground provides basic amenities including portable toilets available year-round and bear-proof trash receptacles. Campers must bring their own water as there is no potable water available on-site. Each campsite has an existing fire ring where campers may burn only dead wood found on the ground. The location offers direct access to the New River for swimming, fishing, and boating activities. Brooklyn Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted and no camping fees. Campers are limited to 14 days per 28-day period across all park campgrounds. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash, and quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Weather in the Appalachian Mountains can be unpredictable and often cooler and wetter than surrounding areas.

Directions

From Oak Hill or Fayetteville, take Gatewood Road to the Cunard turnoff. Proceed 1.8 miles, then follow signs to Cunard River Access. Bear right through the boat launch parking lot and continue upstream for a mile; the campground is on the left.
