About

Grandview Sandbar is a primitive campground tucked into shaded woodlands along the New River in West Virginia's New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The 16-site campground offers a mix of drive-in sites that can accommodate RVs up to 31 feet and walk-in tent sites, plus two accessible campsites positioned near the river. The setting provides direct access to the New River for fishing and white-water boating. Facilities are basic: composting toilets are available year-round, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Trash and recycling collection is provided. Each campsite has an existing fire ring for campfires, though only dead and down wood may be burned. There are no hookups, dump stations, or showers. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted and no camping fees. Camping is limited to 14 days per 28-day period. Access is via Glade Creek Road, a narrow gravel road that makes large RVs impractical. Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 6 AM, and pets must remain leashed.

Directions

Located on Glade Creek Road off Route 41 near Prince. Coming from Beckley, Glade Creek Road is a well-marked right turn just before crossing the New River. Follow the gravel Glade Creek Road for one mile, then turn left down a short winding road to the campground.
