Grandview Shelter 2 is a spacious day-use picnic shelter situated within the historic Grandview area of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The shelter, shaded by the forest canopy, can accommodate gatherings of up to 135 people total (80 inside, 55 outside) and features two electrical outlets and four charcoal grills. The facility is handicapped accessible with an asphalt walkway leading to the shelter. The Grandview area became part of New River Gorge National River in 1990 after more than 50 years as one of West Virginia's most popular state parks. Located 1,400 feet above the New River at the Main Overlook, visitors enjoy spectacular views of the gorge, an active railway, and the historic town of Quinnimont. The area is renowned for its beautiful displays of rhododendron and offers five hiking trails, overlooks, a seasonal visitor center, ranger-led activities, summer outdoor dramas at Theatre West Virginia, playgrounds, volleyball court, baseball field, and basketball court. The shelter is available for reservation through Recreation.gov and is popular for family reunions, picnics, and group gatherings. Potable water is available at restrooms and drinking fountains. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited, and special use permits are required for weddings. The city of Beckley is approximately 12 miles away, offering shopping, restaurants, and hotels.

Directions

From Beckley follow I-64 East five miles to Exit 129B. From Lewisburg follow I-64 West forty miles to Exit 129. From either exit, turn right and follow Route 9 North six miles to Grandview.
