About
Army Camp is a free primitive campground situated on the banks of the New River at one of its many horseshoe bends within New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The campground offers 11 drive-in sites suitable for tents, campers, and RVs. Sites vary from partially shaded to fully open with no shade cover. This is a primitive camping experience with limited facilities. Composting toilets are available year-round, and bear-proof trash receptacles are provided. There is no potable water, electricity, hookups, or showers. Campers must bring their own drinking water. Each site features a picnic table and fire ring for campfires using dead wood found on the ground. All sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted and no camping fees. The campground accommodates small RVs under 25 feet and medium RVs from 22 to 31.5 feet. Large RVs over 31.5 feet are not recommended due to site access constraints. There are no pull-through sites. Camping is limited to 14 days within any 28-day period, with quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM.
