About
Army Camp is a free primitive campground located along the banks of the New River at one of its scenic horseshoe bends within New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The campground offers 11 drive-in sites that accommodate both tents and RVs, with a maximum recommended length of 31.5 feet for medium RVs and trailers. Large RVs are not recommended due to the campground's access road and site configurations. Some sites offer partial shade while others are in the open. This first-come, first-served campground operates without reservations and requires no camping fees. Amenities are basic and include year-round composting toilets, bear-proof trash receptacles, and fire rings at each site. There is no potable water, showers, or hookups available. Campers must bring their own water and are limited to 14 days per 28-day period. Each site accommodates up to 2 tents or 1 tent and 1 RV/camper, with a maximum of 2 vehicles, 8 people, and 4 pets per site. The campground is accessed via an unmarked dirt road off Route 41 near Prince. Coming from Beckley, it is the first left after crossing the New River. One accessible campsite is available, and the composting restroom facilities are also accessible. Pets must be kept on leash, and quiet hours are observed from 10 PM to 6 AM.
