About
Blackhorse Campground is situated along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway and the Wild and Scenic Imnaha River within the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Popular activities include fishing in the Imnaha River, picnicking, exploring the scenic byway, visiting interpretive and historic sites throughout Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, and hunting during fall big game seasons. The campground is a good base for accessing Hells Canyon Wilderness, though motorized vehicles, bicycles, and mechanical equipment are prohibited within the wilderness boundary. Campers should note that no potable water is available at this site; drinking water can be obtained at Ollokot Campground approximately 0.5 miles south on Forest Road 39. Cell phone service is often unavailable in this remote area, so visitors should prepare accordingly. The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is closed by snow from late October through late May or early June.
