About

Big Bar Camping Area offers primitive camping along the Snake River in the dramatic landscape of Hells Canyon within the Payette National Forest. The location serves both tent campers and RV users seeking a rustic experience. Amenities are minimal at this free camping area. A single vault toilet is provided near the entrance along with an informational sign. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own water or be prepared to treat and filter water from the Snake River. The campground provides access to the Allison Creek Trailhead across Hells Canyon Road, offering opportunities for hiking along Allison Creek Trail (#514). The campground is accessed via Highway 71, approximately 56 miles from Cambridge. The route follows the highway down to the Snake River and continues along the Hells Canyon corridor. Winter road conditions may affect accessibility during snowy months. Standard Forest Service regulations apply, including a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period.

Directions
