About
Lost Lake Campground sits adjacent to Highway 20 near the summit of Santiam Pass in the Willamette National Forest. This rustic, tent-only campground occupies the west shore of shallow Lost Lake, offering 15 single campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. Three vault toilets serve the campground, but no drinking water is available, so campers must bring their own supply. The lake itself is a unique feature of the Oregon Cascades, with water levels that fluctuate dramatically by season. By summer, the lake becomes quite low, with water-loving willows crowding the marshy shallows. Visitors should exercise caution around the area where Lost Lake drains, as the hole may be unstable and could break under weight. The campground is popular during fishing and hunting seasons. Dogs are permitted but must remain on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times. Fire bans are common during summer months. Nearby attractions include Big Lake Day Use and Trail areas, Sand Mountain Lookout, Mt. Washington Wilderness, and the Pacific Crest Trail.
Directions
From McKenzie Bridge, OR, follow Highway 126 east for 28 miles to Lost Lake Campground. The turnoff is on the north side of the highway just past Potato Hill Sno-park at Forest Road 890.
