About

Saddle Creek Campground is a small, remote site located on the rim of Hells Canyon within the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. The campground offers 7 walk-in tent-only sites where visitors can enjoy a primitive campout while taking in sweeping views across the deepest river gorge in North America to Idaho's Seven Devils Mountains. The area was heavily impacted by wildfires in the past, leaving the campground with scarce shade and few mature trees. Despite this, the location provides an exceptional vantage point for experiencing the dramatic landscape of Hells Canyon. The campground is not maintained during the off-season and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a self-service fee station. Access to the campground requires traveling approximately 18 miles on Forest Road 2640 (Hat Point Road) from Imnaha. This is a very steep, narrow, winding gravel road that is unsuitable for RVs, trailers, and low-clearance vehicles. The road can become slippery when wet or frozen and is not recommended for trailers in late fall and winter conditions.

Directions

From Enterprise, Oregon travel south 6 miles on Highway 82 towards Joseph. In Joseph turn left on Highway 350 and go 30 miles to Imnaha, Oregon. In Imnaha travel about 18 miles on Forest Road 2640 (Hat Point Road) to the campground entrance on the right side of the road. Advisory: Forest Road 2640 is a very steep, narrow, winding gravel road. Low clearance vehicles, RVs and vehicles pulling trailers are advised to use caution when traveling the lower sections of this road.
