About

Bear Creek Lake State Park Cabins provide a peaceful retreat in the heart of Cumberland State Forest, less than an hour west of Richmond. The park offers 13 fully equipped cabins ranging from 2-bedroom units sleeping up to six guests to 3-bedroom cabins sleeping eight, plus Bear Creek Lodge (The Lakehouse), a 6-bedroom family lodge accommodating up to 16 guests. All cabins feature wood-burning fireplaces with complimentary firewood, full kitchens with modern appliances, heat pumps, wrap-around decks with rocking chairs, picnic tables, fire rings, and charcoal grills. Select cabins offer water views of the 40-acre lake, and several units are ADA-accessible. The park centers around a 40-acre lake offering fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and channel catfish, with boat rentals available seasonally. A swimming beach with bathhouse operates during summer months, and an ADA-accessible fishing pier provides lake access. The park features multiple hiking trails and connects to the 16,000-acre Cumberland State Forest, including the 15.7-mile Cumberland Multi-use Trail for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Additional amenities include a 10-lane archery range, playgrounds, and Bear Creek Hall for group gatherings. The park is open from 8 a.m. to dusk daily, with the office operating 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Directions

The park is located about 4.5 miles northwest of the town of Cumberland. From U.S. Route 60, go west on Route 622 and south on Route 629 to the park entrance. GPS users coming from the west should continue on Route 60 East through Cumberland Courthouse area and turn left on Trents Mill Road (Route 622) rather than taking gravel Oak Hill Road through Cumberland State Forest.
