About

Chestnut Campground is one of three camping loops at Bear Creek Lake State Park, nestled within Cumberland State Forest in central Virginia less than an hour west of Richmond. The loop offers 11 shaded tent and popup sites with water and electric hookups, including four sites upgraded to 50-amp service to accommodate modern RVs. One ADA-accessible site includes sewer hookup. The campground underwent significant renovations with a new ADA-compliant bathhouse featuring private family shower rooms and energy-efficient upgrades. Every site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Campers have access to flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, an RV dump station, and year-round WiFi. Pets are welcome on leash at no additional fee, and a designated pet swim area provides lake access for dogs since they are not permitted on the main beach. The 40-acre lake serves as the park's centerpiece with fishing, boating, and swimming. Amenities include an ADA-accessible fishing pier, boat launch and rentals, swimming beach, archery range, hiking trails, and playground.

Directions

From U.S. Route 60 west of Richmond, take Route 622 west then Route 629 south to the park entrance. The park is approximately 4.5 miles northwest of the town of Cumberland in central Virginia.
