Bear Creek Lake State Park Shelter Loop

Closed — The campgrounds are closed for construction. Camping season typically runs from the first Friday in March until the first Monday in December.

About

Bear Creek Lake State Park's Shelter Loop campground system consists of three distinct loops—Acorn, Black Oak, and Chestnut—offering 45 campsites in the heart of Cumberland State Forest. Acorn Loop features 10 waterfront tent sites with no hookups and seven sites with electric and water hookups for smaller RVs up to 20 feet. Black Oak Loop provides 16 sites with electric and water hookups, accommodating both small pop-ups and larger rigs up to 35 feet. Chestnut Loop offers 11 electric and water sites suitable for tents and small camping units, with select sites handling equipment up to 35 feet. The campground surrounds a scenic 40-acre lake offering swimming, fishing, and boat rentals during summer months. Campers enjoy access to hiking trails within the park and the extensive trail network of Cumberland State Forest, including the 15.7-mile Cumberland Multi-use Trail. The park also features an archery range, playgrounds, and a swimming beach. Campground amenities include bathhouses with showers, a camp host, and firewood sales. The facility is well-suited for families and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a peaceful woodland and lakeside camping experience.

Directions

From U.S. Route 60, go west on Route 622 and south on Route 629 to the park entrance, approximately 4.5 miles northwest of Cumberland. Note: GPS users coming from the west should stay on Route 60 East through Cumberland Courthouse, then turn left on Trents Mill Road (Route 622) rather than taking the gravel section of Oak Hill Road through Cumberland State Forest.
