Black Oak Campground is one of three camping loops at Bear Creek Lake State Park, located in the heart of Cumberland State Forest about an hour west of Richmond. The campground features 16 sites divided between smaller sites accommodating pop-ups and equipment up to 20 feet, and eight larger RV sites (21, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 32, 34) that can handle rigs up to 35 feet combined tow vehicle and trailer length. All sites have water and electric hookups with 20, 30, and 50-amp service available, plus fire rings suitable for campfires or charcoal grills. Campers at Black Oak have access to restroom and shower facilities in the adjacent Acorn and Chestnut loops, as well as a dump station. The park office sells ice, and firewood is available at the Acorn Loop entrance via cash or credit card. Wi-Fi hotspots are provided near the park office and contact station. The park centers on its 40-acre lake, which offers a boat launch, fishing pier, paddleboat and kayak rentals, and a swimming beach. Note that some sites in Black Oak Loop are not level and a few lack shade. Black Oak closes annually by mid-November to accommodate the park's Lights at the Lake holiday event.

Directions

From U.S. Route 60, go west on Route 622, then south on Route 629 to the park entrance. The park is approximately 4.5 miles northwest of the town of Cumberland.
