Acorn Loop Campground occupies a prime lakeside location at Bear Creek Lake State Park in central Virginia's Cumberland State Forest, less than an hour west of Richmond. As the only camping area directly on the 40-acre lake, Acorn Loop offers 17 total sites divided into two distinct types. Ten primitive waterfront tent sites feature 10x10 foot tent pads with natural surface camping and no hookups, providing unobstructed lake views. Seven additional sites with 20 and 30-amp electric and water hookups accommodate pop-ups and small RVs up to 20 feet long, though these sites lack water views. The campground provides convenient access to the park's swimming beach, fishing pier, and boat launch for non-motorized craft. A bathhouse with showers is available within the loop. Campers can explore hiking trails within the park and access the adjacent 16,000-acre Cumberland State Forest, including the 15.7-mile Cumberland Multi-use Trail. Each site includes a metal fire ring and picnic table. Firewood is available for purchase at the entrance to Acorn Loop. A campground host is stationed at site 14 near the activity shelter during most of the camping season. The park office sells ice and basic supplies, while a camp store operates seasonally at the beach area from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Directions

From US Route 60, go west on Route 622 (Trents Mill Road), then south on Route 629 to the park entrance. The park is approximately 4.5 miles northwest of Cumberland. Register at the park office near the campgrounds on Bear Creek Lake Road off Route 629.
