About
Twin Lakes State Park spans 548 acres in Prince Edward County, offering a variety of lodging options and outdoor activities year-round. The park features 11 climate-controlled cabins ranging from two-bedroom units to an eight-person capacity, plus the Bowen Lodge, a six-bedroom waterfront facility that sleeps up to 16. All cabins include full kitchens, modern bathrooms, and outdoor amenities like fire rings and grills. The campground operates seasonally from the first Friday in March through the first Monday in December, with 33 sites accommodating tents and RVs up to 36 feet. The park's two lakes, Goodwin Lake (15 acres) and Prince Edward Lake (36 acres), provide year-round unguarded swimming, fishing for sunfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish, plus boating with electric motors. Six miles of hiking trails wind through hardwood forests and along the lakeshores, while an adjacent 8-mile multi-use trail in Prince Edward-Gallion State Forest welcomes hikers, bikers, and equestrians. The park also offers picnic shelters, a Discovery Center with nature programs, and the Cedar Crest Conference Center for events and gatherings. Twin Lakes State Park holds significant historical importance, having been established in 1950 as Prince Edward State Park following a civil rights lawsuit. The two formerly segregated lake areas merged in 1976 and were renamed Twin Lakes in 1986, preserving the legacy of Virginia's civil rights history alongside its natural beauty.
