...Please check with state and local authorities regarding guidelines for allowed activities... * The warm air temperatures today in the upper 60s to lower 70s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the 40s and 50s across Lake Champlain and in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. According to the US Coast Guard, when the water temperatures are below 50 degrees, the chance of immediate incapacitation due to cold shock is extremely high. Anyone on small boats, canoes or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket!
About
Ausable Point Campground occupies a scenic peninsula jutting into Lake Champlain in New York's Adirondack region. The campground features 120 sites, many with views of the lake and easy access to the natural sand beach. The shoreline's gentle slope makes it ideal for swimming, while the Stone Jetty area is designated for wind and kite surfing. A car-top boat launch provides access for canoes, kayaks, and small watercraft. The campground borders the Ausable Point Wildlife Management Area, offering hiking trails and opportunities for wildlife observation. Facilities include modern restrooms with hot showers, a trailer dump station, recycling center, and a picnic pavilion available for rent. A bathhouse serves the beach area, and recreational amenities include a basketball court, volleyball, and amphitheater. Sites are back-in style with driveways typically 30-35 feet. Each site accommodates up to 6 people with a maximum of 2 tents or 1 RV/trailer plus 1 tent. Fire rings are provided at each site for campfires using dead and down wood. Pets are welcome with proof of current rabies vaccination but must be leashed and are not permitted on the beach or in buildings.
