About

Woods Island State Park sits in northern Lake Champlain near Burton Island, offering one of Vermont's most remote camping experiences. The 125-acre island features five primitive tent sites spread along the shoreline, each providing waterfront solitude accessible only by boat. A 2-mile interpretive loop trail circles the island through mixed forest, and the rocky shoreline offers excellent swimming and fishing opportunities. This is true backcountry camping. There are no docks, so visitors must beach their boats or anchor offshore. The island has no potable water, electricity, or modern facilities. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table, with composting outhouses serving the camping area. Campers must pack in all supplies and pack out all trash. If you don't have your own boat, water taxi services operate from Grand Isle County. The remote setting rewards paddlers and boaters seeking a wilderness island experience within reach of Burlington.
