Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT

December 29th, 1:04 PM — 1:00 AM

Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.

About

Taylor Pond Campground is situated in a remote area of the northeastern Adirondacks, nine miles northwest of Ausable Forks on Silver Lake Road. The campground occupies the northeast corner of Taylor Pond, a dam-controlled 813-acre body of water stretching four miles in length. With only 10 acres of developed area surrounded by over 8,000 acres of Wild Forest state land, the facility maintains a primitive, backcountry character far from mainstream tourist areas. The campground features 25 drive-in sites that can accommodate camping units from small tents to 30-foot RVs, plus 5 interior sites accessible only by boat, including 3 lean-tos and 2 tent sites. As a primitive facility, amenities are basic: vault toilets, water spigots at various locations, and no electricity or showers. The campground provides the only public access to Taylor Pond via a beach-ramp boat launch located just past the entrance booth. Recreational opportunities center on the pond itself, with excellent fishing for lake trout and landlocked Atlantic salmon. Motor boats are permitted, and canoe and rowboat rentals are available at the boat launch near the caretaker's residence. The surrounding Wild Forest offers hiking opportunities, and a 12-mile snowmobile trail circles the pond in winter. Wildlife enthusiasts frequently observe loons, ospreys, bald eagles, and diverse flora throughout the area. The facility has operated as a developed campground since 1981, with interior sites added to the fee system in 1990.
