About

Knight Island State Park offers a true backcountry camping experience on a remote island in northern Lake Champlain, accessible only by private boat. The 185-acre island is one of three nearby island state parks (along with Burton Island and Woods Island) and provides a quiet, primitive escape from mainland crowds. Seven campsites are positioned around the island's 2.5-mile shoreline, each offering waterfront access and connected by hiking trails. The campground features six lean-to shelters and one tent-only site, all requiring advance reservations with a two-night minimum for bookings made more than seven days ahead. Sites include fire rings and picnic tables. Composting toilets are available, but there is no potable water, showers, or trash service. Campers must bring all water and supplies and pack out all garbage. Pets are allowed but must be cleaned up after. This is a destination for self-sufficient paddlers and boaters seeking solitude. There is no dock, so campers must beach their boats or anchor offshore. The island's trails, rocky shores, and forested interior provide opportunities for hiking and wildlife observation in a setting that feels genuinely remote despite being just a few miles from the mainland.
