About
Assateague State Park is Maryland's only oceanfront park, situated on a barrier island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Sinepuxent Bay to the west. The campground offers 345 sites plus three youth group areas spread across multiple loops, with electric hookups (15, 20, 30, and 50 amp) available in the G and I loops. Every site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with horse-resistant food storage tables in select areas to protect against the island's famous wild horses. Seasonal bathhouses operate from May through October and include flush toilets, sinks, family restrooms, baby changing stations, and outdoor rinse showers. Off-season camping relies on portable toilets with no running water. The park provides a dump station, camp store, marina with two boat launch ramps, a fishing pier, and beach wheelchairs available at no charge. Pets are permitted in camping loops G, H, and I and on adjoining beaches but must remain leashed at all times unless actively swimming. Campers should maintain at least 40 feet of distance from the wild horses that roam the island.
